Sustainability

We combine sustainability and comfort.

The main objective of Casa León Royal Retreat is to harmonize the protection of the environment with our operations, improving our relationship with the environment and achieving maximum customer satisfaction. For this reason, the management and all employees of the company are committed to the continuous improvement of the environmental performance of the services we offer.

Our management policy is entirely focused on the environment and the quality of our services; our goal is to achieve a state of sustainable development.

To improve and meet international sustainability requirements, we have joined Green Pearls® Unique Places, the world’s leading source of data on sustainable places.

This is a great challenge for us, but also a source of satisfaction for the entire team.

CO2 Offset:

To offset the CO2 emissions of our hotel and arriving guests, we have leased 40,000 m² of forest in the Balkans, which we leave and maintain in its original state.

Architecture:

Casa León Royal Retreat is nestled in a 10,000-square-foot estate and blends harmoniously into the landscape as a small, two-story boutique hotel. The open-plan, vernacular architectural style brings nature right inside. The owner himself was instrumental in the design of the hotel, working with a locally based architectural firm. He drew inspiration from various vacations in Spain with his family. The fabrics, furniture and materials were personally selected by the owner and thus also bear the signature of the family. Colors and furnishings reflect the landscape with the sea, sand and mountains. Large panoramic windows in almost all rooms, in the lobby and in the restaurant provide a light atmosphere and create a unity with the surroundings. The large outdoor area with the well-kept, colorful flowering hotel garden is spacious and offers with small rest islands, loungers and gazebos the ideal setting to unwind.

Energy Management:

At Casa León Royal Retreat is gradually implementing an energy saving concept that affects all areas of the hotel.

The correct temperature is controlled in swimming pools, rooms and common areas. Energy consumption in the kitchen and laundry is optimized by controlling the on and off times of the large machines very well.

In the outdoor facilities, swimming pool and common areas, the entire lighting system was converted to low energy consumption. In the bedrooms, the lighting is gradually changed. The idea is to make the most of the natural light and warm climate of the Canary Islands.

Time clocks have been installed throughout the hotel to automatically turn the lights on and off, and soon the refrigerators at the buffet and the pumps in the machine room will also be equipped with clocks so that they automatically turn off when not in use.

Water:

Water is a scarce resource in the Canary Islands. Since there are no rivers or lakes on the islands and the climate is very dry, obtaining water is a vital problem.

Guests at Casa León Royal Retreat are reminded by a small sign in the bathroom to conserve water in the showers and avoid unnecessary washing of towels.

By reducing the daily amount of laundry in this way, you not only save water, but also detergent and electricity.

The use of water-saving showerheads aims to further reduce water consumption in the near future.

A large part of the garden of Casa León Royal Retreat consists of species such as cacti and the like, which require very little water.

The plant is equipped with a biological treatment system that reuses wastewater for irrigation.

The water comes from a nearby well in Ayagaures Gorge. No one will be adversely affected by the water withdrawal there.

A rainwater collection system in the hotel’s courtyard also provides water capacity. As well as the domestic water treatment plant.

Garbage:

Casa León Royal Retreat is managed according to the principle “avoid waste, recycle, eliminate” .

Plastic packaging is avoided as completely as possible, e.g. at breakfast. There is a waste separation system throughout the hotel. Containers with recyclables are collected once a week.

Culinary:

The cuisine at Casa León Royal Retreat is characterized by seasonality and regional influences. Mediterranean and Canarian flavors run through the dishes. Thus, the German chef Holger Schmidt spoils his guests with creative and light dishes from mainly regional ingredients. He does not use ready-made products or sauces, everything is made individually, taking into account the needs of the guest.

Food:

In Casa León Royal Retreat, the preparation of the dishes are mainly seasonal and Km. 0 products and even organic food used.

Besides getting tastier food and dishes, this philosophy benefits small local producers, which has a positive impact on improving the local economy.

At the same time, it helps reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere when food transportation is kept to a minimum.

We have our own small herb garden, lemon and orange trees.
